SARD SHAWL
SARD is a fingering weight shawl with quite some character. It is constructed top-down, very similar to a classic triangle. But it is shaped to elongate the tips, resulting in a slightly winged triangle or heart shape. The body is made of simple stockinette and mesh rows with a slipped stitch edge along the top line. The shawl is finished with a lacy decorative knitted-on border .
Sard (pronounced /Surdh/)is a Hindi word which simply means chill or cold. The light-weight fabric and heart shaping makes SARD a suitable wear for chilly evenings of late summer or early fall.
I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Mindy of Henlia Handmade for this design. She dyes such beautiful colorways using natural dyes and locally sourced yarn.
Looking at her instagram feed always makes me feel like the proverbial kid in a candy store. 😋 When she offered to collaborate for a design, it was too hard to resist. The colors kept unfolding beautifully as I knit my shawl and basically turned this into a non-putdownable project.
I have used 1 skein of Henlia Handmade Lakeside collection, 100% U.S. Cormo Fingering in colorway ‘Lake Day Weather’.
