This design is my contribution to the second edition of
Indian Designer Collaboration(indesco) – Monsoon Memoirs Sep 2020.
Due to the heavy impact it has on the socio-economic conditions in India and its surrounding countries, Indian Summer Monsoon is one of the highly anticipated, tracked and studied weather phenomena in the world. Growing up in India, one simply learns to bend their lives around the rains and monsoon.
In many Indian households, the arrival of rain immediately calls for chai and snacks. To me, watching the raindrops splatter and braid down the windows while sharing chai with a loved one is almost the Indian equivalent of the Danish ‘Hygge’.
I designed this infinity cowl pattern with a simple mix of garter, mesh, short rows and brioche. I believe it is a good combo for an interesting texture packed knit.
The straight, slanting and curved lines featuring in this pattern, represents the window bars and the rain making patterns on it. There is a fun little color pop section in the cowl and I decided to make it in the color of ‘chai’. 🙂
Lastly, ‘Cutting Chai’ refers to half the quantity of tea sold at half-price, served in special small sized glasses. The idea is to enjoy several cups of tea throughout the day but also moderate the amount of intake in some way. :))
