MANZIL MITTS

Manzil Mitts is my contribution to the third edition of Indian Designers Collaboration (indesco) Taj Aug 2021. This edition is themed around the Taj Mahal.

Taj Mahal, is a universally admired architectural masterpiece located on the southern bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. The Taj Mahal was commissioned by a grieving Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal in the 17th century.

He wanted it to be an earthly reflection of her house in paradise. The interiors of the Taj Mahal features exquisite marble and gemstone inlay work depicting religious text and floral patterns that bring about a sense of calm and eternity, symbolizing paradise on earth.

Manzil Mitts feature an octagonish textural motif as a subtle nod to the octagonal inner chambers of the Taj Mahal. The word ‘Manzil’ simply means ‘house’ or ‘dwelling’ in the Arabic Language.
